Tip-off for kids

Children should have the opportunity for a good start in life. That is what Dirk Nowitzki wants for all children. Having had the good fortune to grow up in an untroubled, nurturing environment, Dirk Nowitzki is convinced that sports and a physically active life are an integral part of a happy childhood. That is why he established his foundation ten years ago.

Especially those girls and boys who grow up in adverse social conditions should be given a chance to optimally develop their abilities and to have the experience of taking an active part in the community. Too often, discrimination and deprivation determine and shape the formative years of these young people.

Dirk Nowitzki shares confidence in the game-changing potential of sports with many other dedicated individuals. With his foundation, he supports initiatives and institutions that, through sports, open up a wide variety of personal, social and career opportunities for young people.

Thanks for your awesome bright ideas!

Wonderful bright ideas kept floating into our office right up until the May 8 deadline of “Ideen mit Köpfchen.”  Many thanks to all who participated!  We understand how much time and work it involves. And that makes us appreciate even more the fact that so many girls and boys are already taking an active part in the decision-making in their projects.  Now we ask for a little patience.  First we need to get an overview of all of the entries, and then we are going to let our Junior Experts confer.  The decision should be made by the end of June.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed!

Unicef Together for Children

Opportunities for girls and boys to grow up in a child-appropriate way are very unfairly distributed, even in wealthy countries.  That is what the UNICEF “Fairness for Children” study confirmed.  The study made inquiries about how well wealthy industrialized countries are taking care of the well-being of their most disadvantaged children.  They did this by comparing the inequality gap between children at the bottom end with the median in four areas:  income, education, health and life satisfaction in order to address the question “How far behind are children being allowed to fall?”

Bernd Hollerbach und Amir Shapourzadeh

Yesterday the kids from the project “Football meets Culture” had the unique opportunity to visit Amir Shapourzadeh, their project’s sponsor, during his football training with coach Bernd Hollerbach. In spite of the freezing-cold weather and the low-hanging grey clouds, the kids had great fun picking out their star among the crowd of Kickers dressed in red.  They were greeted in front of the field by Ines Schlagbauer, initiator and leader of the support organization “Kickers hilft, e.V.” (Kickers help)

KIKS UP - playing games in class shows positive effects

Klasse Klasse Logo

About 300 schoolkids from various primary schools in Bad Nauheim play the “KLASSE KLASSE” game in class every day with their teachers.  Using action and event cards, they experience playful aspects of exercise, nutrition and cooperation and actively implement them. They have a lot of fun doing it and at the same time the game enhances a community feeling in the classroom.  The kids especially like the exercise and movement segments.  “They have become more aware of being there for each other.  They have more confidence to bring things up that are on their minds and to actively come forward with their interests.”  That was the initial positive experience expressed by one teacher.
