The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation
I am happy to contribute with the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation to creating more possibilities for children and young adolescents to make similar experiences and to have a chance for a positive development!”
Sports have always been an important aspect of Dirk Nowitzki's life. It helped him to get to know his own limits from an early age – and how to overcome them. As a teenager he was aware of how important physical activity, team play and the athletic idea of competition as well as fairness would be for his own personal development. His enjoyment of playing with children and young adolescents and the idea of giving them back some of his success and experience lead to the creation of the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation in 2005. It all started with smaller projects in his native city of Würzburg. From there the support of the foundation spread more and more.
Today the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation supports children and young adolescents from underprivileged backgrounds of Würzburg and surrounding areas, Germany and the whole world to experience community through sports and physical exercise and to playfully develop social competences. It enables them to take part in social life and offers them a good start into life in a positive and active environment, all under the slogan "Tip-off for kids" The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation cooperates with projects and initiatives which for example combine exercise with educational activities or which offer integration through sports social work. The financing of sports equipment is hereby supported as well.
